This question came to me last night, and the answer was immediate. It has not left me since, a bittersweet thought that both makes me reach back into the past and look up to the future.
The thing I most want to tell my sixteen year-old self is-
It won't last. Nothing is meant to last forever, and you, of all people, should know that. You knew that you would not stay forever when you first landed in Hong Kong, so why would it be any different now, even though this would be your home for the foreseeable future? That is how the world works. Everything has its time, and everything must come to an end. There will be a day where the four of you will separate, and you will be apart. Maybe it will be temporary, and maybe it will be until the end of your days.
It's okay to cry. It's okay to break down, and it's okay to laugh, to love, and to hold. It is okay to be no more than yourself because they, when they can, when they will, love you for you.
But know this also- that today is not tomorrow. That the end has yet to be, and no matter how little the time left, there is time still. Know that when it's over, you will still be alive. You will end up okay. Most importantly, know that for this moment, you still are. And that is enough.
