State Fair 2014: round 1

Well, 455 was canceled today, but I had to leave home early anyway to meet with the Director of Graduate Studies in the Architecture Program at State =] she was so nice and just a wonderful person in general.

There were so many things she said to me that encouraged me through the 40 minutes or so that I spoke to her- she reminded me of why I'm in the arts and humanities.

I told her my parents wanted me to go into a more business-professional field, but I didn't want to sit behind a desk all day. That I saw the world through words, that I look at things in a completely different language. That I want to pinpoint the subtle differences that set something apart from everything else. Well, of course you wouldn't want to sit behind a desk, she said. You see things.

We went to the State Fair tonight because we figured that there wouldn't be as many people in the middle of the week, and we were right! A lot of people canceled kind of last minute though...so that kind of sucked. Elora was tired and her mood was worsening, so she couldn't go (not to mention she had quintet practice). Because she wasn't going, Taylor automatically wasn't going. Then others starting dropping out until there were nine of us going.

It wasn't a bad-sized group at all. Had so much fun watching them go on rides and dear God trying out all the good food! I had a turkey leg (which everybody -cough Michael cough- helped me finish because there was no way in heck I could have finished that hunk of meat by myself), and got a thing of lemonade which I shared with everyone. Then I got a thing of deep fried red velvet Oreos...let me tell you. They didn't taste like clown, like the red velvet funnel cakes at Martinsville last year did. They. Were. Amazing.

Holly and I shared deep fried cookie dough after, and that was aite. I'm not a big fan of cookie dough after it's fried =\ woops.
Frozen banana! Chocolate dipped with nuts. I couldn't bite into it the first time, and Stephen laughed at me. I feel kind of bad; I invited him, but I don't know if he actually had fun or not with everyone else...I mean, they got along, I just don't know if he felt out of place or anything.
So I did an omnom pass with the banana, and watching each person try to eat it was hilarious.

Mission for Saturday: I need to try a frozen cheesecake hand-dipped in chocolate.

I had so much fun. Katie Stanton came up from Durham, Aurelia came, Perer came, Holly came, Hannah came, Michael came, Kristine came, Nick came, big Stephen came, and I got to know freshman Stephen a bit more. When we were watching the fireworks, we were just...a family. It was nice. It felt nice to have another family. Just a crazy group of kids. I mean, Sunday, Jacob and Grace came back, and a group of us went out to eat. It was amazing to hang out with them again; I rarely get to talk with Jake as it is. Tonight just made it better.

I felt kind of crappy, though, because I had to bring a crutch or else I would have died early on. I just felt like everyone had to take care of me, and I was slowing everyone down (despite Hannah and Peter's explanations that I didn't and whatnot). But nevertheless, it was a lot of fun to have the chance to spend time with them.

Hey, you.

I wasn't expecting to see you there at all, honestly. It was nice to see you and her. I mean, I'm happy for you, you know? That you're moving on and whatnot. She's gorgeous and super sweet. I told you I was replaceable, didn't I?
